In January 2011, OARA Members adopted the National Code of Practice for Auto Recyclers for all of its Direct Members - both existing and new.
This stringent Code was developed by the Automotive Recyclers of Canada (ARC) for Environment Canada to support the National Vehicle Scrappage Program - Retire Your Ride. The Code includes minimum compliance requirements to properly and legally process a vehicle in Ontario, along with best practices and basic housekeeping guidance. In addition to implementing the Code as a minimum requirement for all Members, OARA has also retained an independent auditor to physically visit each Member and evaluate their business against a standardized audit protocol. The auditor and Member also mutually agree on pollution prevention and corrective measures to improve their score and operation year over year. A minimum score of 70% is required to pass the audit and follow up audits will be utilized depending on the score received.
The Code and audits demonstrate that OARA Members are leaders in the auto recycling industry.
